Key Information

The International Conference on the Holocaust is organised by the Faculty of Social Theology (University of Athens) and will focus on presenting both the historical and cultural context (early, medieval and contemporary persecutions of Jews, subversion through literature and art, etc), as well as discussing the importance of the term’s biblical roots (ὁλοκαύτωμα) and the theological and social implications of the Shoah (שואה) in contemporary times.

Moreover, by utilizing the Greek and European academic infrastructure as provided by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the content will be made available to schools and the general public, through the use of asynchronous recorded content (Project Delos) and electronic proceedings.

The Conference’s aim is clearly aligned with the Faculty’s founding value of engaging in debate about current social issues and it will disseminate academic research but will be accessible to the general public. In order to achieve both a high calibre academic presentation as well as a meaningful social outreach and educational character, the participants will present a general approach to their topic and their more elaborate research will be published after the completion of the Conference.

The official language of the proceedings will be English. However, the Faculty will translate the papers read at the Conference in Greek so as to make them available to the general public.
